what type is better spot for flood

mastino177 Sep 21, 2004 02:00 PM

I have a beardie and two uros (in two 40 breeders). I'm purchasing MVB's for both tanks (Powersun), but I'm stuck on what kind of bulb...spot or flood. Which is better? I'll probably will purchase stands to hold them so that when I feed during the day...I will not disturb the bulb. Oh, what wattage is better...100 or 160? I'm using a heat bulb that I purchased at Home Depot (125 watt)and it works well.

How far is the bulb from the basking spot. I use 45 watt hallogen spot bulbs about 8 inches from my basking spots and my temps are at a constant 115.

They are probably about 10 to twelve inches away...with a stand that would probably increase to about half or double.

I would suspect the 100watt MVB would do fine, but you may need the 160watt you won't know until you test. Testing with MVB is very expensive unless you just wanna but metal hallide bulbs from home depot. They are the same bulb and cost about 15 bucks.
