Fire skinks are difficult to sex. Adult males tend to have larger heads maybe more streamlined in body shape than the female and may have more vivid colours than the females. the best way to get it done though is to take them to a vet and they will use a snake probe to give you the sex of your skinks.

Good points. The red bars on the males tend to creep up further into the bronze dorsal patch in the males and in some cases even join at the top. I've found that males have proportionally longer tails than females as well. Try putting them together in a cage with a divider and see how they respond. If nothing happens, try removing the barrier. Just be prepared to separate them immediately if a scrap starts.

I would advise against probing, however, as skink physiology differs from that of snakes and serious injuries can occur from probing them as you would a snake. Ultrasound and x-ray are more commonly used than probing.
