Hognose Snakes (Snakes) by Adele Richardson - ever heard of it???

deathstalker Sep 21, 2004 06:57 PM

About 3 months ago or so, I just decided to look up "hognose" (or maybe "hognose snakes" ) on amazon.com (you can try this direct link: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0736821368/ref=wl_it_dp/102-0834457-3248935?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=I3RAEGT6JVMZSL&v=glance&colid=2ET5PFI5CALLG), and to my surprise, I discovered this book released on August 1, 2003. Hognose Snakes (Snakes) by Adele Richardson, it is called, the publisher: Capstone High-Interest Books and ISBN: 0736821368.

I would appreciate it if someone could validate this book, confirm that it is real/authentic. I had never even heard that a book on hogs was to be released last year. A friend of mine told me about 5 years ago that he used to have a book on hogs which he believed to be in T.F.H.'s RE Series, but he had lent it to a friend only to never have it returned (and he obviously couldn't recall who he had lent it to). I don't know where to go to look up ISBNs for validation, but if someone does, please do so and get back to me via this forum. I just don't want to possibly waste my money if this is a misidentifed book, like say it was really on another species.

Thanks,
-----

If you click "22 new and used" you will see a listing of other books for sale. One of the seller has the book description listed as "Describes the physical features, habitat, hunting, and mating methods of hognose snakes." so I think you can say yes, the book is legit.

I haven't heard anything about it either, but I don't expect much for 45 pages! If anybody picks this up, please report back to this forum.

Publisher Comments:
Riveting text describes the habitats, reproduction, and hunting techniques of these elusive and sometimes misunderstood creatures. Readers discover why overdevelopment and an ever-increasing human population are threatening many snakes. Most books contain a range map, so readers can study the regions where these snakes live. This series explores and supports the standard "The Living Environment: Diversity of Life," as required by the Benchmarks for Science Literacy: Project 2061.

as some of you know, I'm writing a book on the captive husbandry and history of hogs and wanted to see what else was out there. To my surprise, there was a book! It was listed under "children's books" but i bought it anyway. It's ok, if you're in elementary school. Its very basic with big fonts so its easy for kids to read. Its nothing scientific, but something to get young kids into snakes early. A good idea if you have a young kid but a waste if you're trying to get educated as a young or mature adult.
