suggestions for bottom of cage

extensive Sep 21, 2004 09:58 PM

i made a wooden cage that is getting stained and then poly on it. what should i put on the floor? i will be using newspaper as the bedding and it is for a blood python. should i put something down or is the poly durable enough? should i seal the corners with some sort of silicone? any info would be great.

LHIC often have remnants of vinyl flooring for pretty cheap. You could install this on the floor and even around the lower sides. Makes clean up easier and protects your wood from spills. Be sure to give the adhesive plenty of time to off gas before installing your snakes.

should i put a bead of silicone around the edges? last time i did this the silicone didnt stick to the wood, but it didnt have poly on it then.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to silicone the edges just more waterproofing. I don't understand why it wouldn't stick to the bare wood unless there was dust on the wood. Make sure you wipe everything down with a damp cloth to remove all dust particles.
