Think my pacman is dying

CDP75 Sep 22, 2004 12:16 AM

I've posted about him/her before and got some hints. I got asked last time about temp and everything and told it was ok but humidity was a little high so I quickly fixed that.

It's been 3 months now and has only eaten once. That was within the first month. I thought it was eating after that but I soon started finding the crickets underneath stuff in the tank. Someone suggested gently opening it's mouth and force feeding it. That only worked once or so I thought until the next day when I found the cricket.
I have tired everything and about to give up. I even tried a tiny anole b/c when I had cornsnake hatchlings, it worked for some of the non-eaters. The pacman was not even interested....just sat there with it's eyes closed. I took him/her to work with me b/c one of the vets has some knowledge about them but coudn't find anything wrong. He even called some other vets he went to school with.

I'm starting to think it would be best if I just euthanize him/her. It's gotten very skinny and I don't know what else to do. I can't just sit here and watch it starve to death. It sucks big time b/c I really like this frog!!!

Anyone have any other suggestions??

i know uve taken it to a vet who 'knows a bit about them' but if it was mines i would get it to a specialist herp vet asap, ie one who has had lots of training specifically on reptiles and amphibians. im not doubting ur colleages skills here please dont take it that way but i couldnt just sit and watch it die if it was mines , i dont think in this case there will be a lot people on here can advise u, i could be wrong but in my opinion he needs profesional attention immediatley !!!

Possibly the largest mistake was force feeding so soon after. I have had frogs stop eating for a month or two and then start up again. I force fed my first frog that I owned when it did this, and it never ate on its own again. As well, if you had posted earlier on, I would have suggest briefly brumating the frog so that its appetite would possibly return. This has worked for me before. But all I can so to do now is what the other poster suggested. Even if you want to euthanize, take it to a herp vet to do it or at least get another opinion. Good luck and hope it works out.
