How do you price a double het...?...any guidelines?

EmberBall Jun 26, 2003 07:43 PM

OK, I breed my albino male to my ghost female, get babies, all double hets, how do you price them? Any guidelines? Like, Albinos are $2500, and ghosts are $1500, add togather and multiply by 1.489 and then divide by.....add 1, subtract 3, ok, You get the point. No I did not really breed my albino to my ghost, but it is a hypothetical question, because I may just do that next year.

I would try to make the best judgement about what the supply and demand graph would look like for that particular double het. Then I would probably mark it up above what you think the supply/demand curve would show. So, if you think that supply/demand would show a price of $4,000, then I would advertise for maybe $5,500. That way, you can always come down from the $5,500 and fell happy about the situation. You may also need to factor in the amount of respect and trust you have in the community. If you are a unknown you will have to sell for less.

I figure it ought to be at least as much as the less expensive parent or the mother - whichever is more. You could breed your female ghost to a ghost male and produce $1,500 (or whatever you could get) ghosts. There is also the factor of how many others have that cross and what people will think the double homozygous will look like. For example I wouldn’t expect a theoretical albino leucistic double het to go for much more than a leucistic het because some might think red eyes in a leucistic to be a bad thing. And as Hoopy pointed out there is also the trust factor involved when selling high dollar normal looing snakes. I guess there are few enough people in the position to make double het snows and enough people who feel the snows are awesome enough looking to drive double het snows to be more expensive than albinos for now.
