Eye Problem,Yikes!

sugadreams Sep 22, 2004 09:35 AM

I have a male veiled chameleon, probally about 4 months old now and i've noticed sometimes when I mist him one or both of his eyes will cover over with a red film and get kinda swollen for a few minutes before returning back to normal, It kinda freaks me out because I don't know why he does it, I think maybe it has something to do with the water in his eyes and if so is this something I should be worried about? Will getting water in his eyes to much damage them? Any suggestions or tips would be most helpful! =)

Don't worry, this is perfectly normal. When they are misted, chams puff up their eyes with air to get the wrinkles out and keep water from getting trapped. Also, the red is just their eyes rolling around (you can see the muscles) in their head to rinse them out. It is good for them, keeps their eyes clean. It does look a little disturbing though
