Please Help - Baby U. henkeli not eating!

thundergibbon Sep 22, 2004 10:44 AM

Hi all,
I have a four week old baby U. henkeli that I bought and it hasn't eaten for over a week now. I've tried giving it crcushed crickets but to no avail.

Anything I can try?

Thanks for any help,
Justin

First of all, I would have to ask who sold you a four week old henkeli in the first place... I personally would not sell one, and certainly would not ship one, until about the 3-4 month mark... At this time, you can be pretty sure that's well estabolished and you can also make a good guess on the sex...

Anyway, thats neither here or there... You can assit feed your little guy... To do this you mix some herptivite, reptocal, chicken baby food, and pedialyte and drop small amounts on its snout... being sure not to get into the eyes and ears...

What type of setup do you have it in?... I explained the setup I keep hatchlings in a lower post... you could check that out as well... I hope you the best of luck!...

That's the previous post that generically describes the hatchling setup...

Thanks for the reply,
I got it from a reputable breeder at a reptile show.

I have it in a 15cm long x 15cm deep x 20cm high container, well ventilated and with a sphagnum moss substrate. I feed appropraiet sized cickets. but he hasn't eaten one yet.

I have tried puttingfood on his nose but he just either wipes it on the floor or smears it off with his back leg straight away.

Any ideas?

tough call. i hate running into problems with babies, especially when it comes to sheds and feeding because they're such tiny lil buggers and i just have no clue how i could gently hold em to help them out. i just had a baby anole hatch about a week ago and it doesnt seem to be eating, and ive never seen it shed since it hatched. its my first anole hatchling to ever survive past the first night. nevertheless, i just keep on trying to get it eat....its gotta figure it out eventually. good luck.
