I was getting worried about this guy...

Jonathan_Brady May 14, 2003 10:34 PM

This guy was REAL dark the other day, too dark for the female I purchased him for, and I was hoping that he was so dark because of the stress. Well, he's been settled in for a few days, taken a meal, and he seems to have lightened up dramatically and stayed that way for a few days and now it's official... he's a keeper!

The other day...

tonight

I have a 4' male that looked exactly like that one.. it is a very pretty boa but did not develop into the classic dark-saddle, light background Suriname that it looked to be when small.

The saddles stayed off-color, actually got more red, less black and the overall color is not tan or canvas at all, but darker, reddish?. He too goes through the color-shift, sometimes looking like just another light Suri but more often dark than light. Sometimes he looks so dark, the pattern is not obvious.

Now I have a smaller female that was given to me that looks like him but with a lower saddle-count . I guess i'm going to have to see if they will make babies in a few years. Oh.. both of these seem to be somewhat slow-growers. They feed and otherwise seem normal but they just aren't as big or heavy as I would have guessed they'd be by now.
