WHIO (Dayton, Ohio) 22 Septmber 04 City Of Dayton Passes Exotic Animal Ordinance
Dayton: Dayton city commissioners voted Wednesday morning to pass an ordinance against dangerous, wild or exotic animals in the city.
For months, commissioners have been trying to come up with restrictions, after a firefighter died from a poisonous snake bite and countless residents have been bitten by dangerous dogs.
The ordinance has been presented to the commission twice before and has been reworked numerous times.
The ordinance states Dayton residents cannot have poisonous snakes or snakes longer than eight feet. It also states residents cannot have wild animals such as deer, bears, bats, alligators, and certain spiders.
According to the ordinance, dangerous dogs must be secured and muzzled in public places.
Residents who break the law, can be fined and charged with a misdemeanor.
