strange marks on boa

goliath127 Sep 22, 2004 01:43 PM

I recently acquired a 5ft red tail. She recently shed and I noticed that she had white marks on her body. It looked almost like someone splashed small amounts of bleach on her. I was hoping someone had similar experiences. Could it be an old scar? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I recently had one of my boas go into shed when he came out of it he had several white blotches on him. the biggest one being 20 scales long and 7 scales wide and the smallest consiting of only 4 scales These arent scars all the scales are intact and before his shed he had no imperfections im just utterly stumped about it but I must say he looks cool

I read somewhere that when you feed a Constrictor, that is in the shedding process, that they can damage the new skin in the process of constiction, and sometime's leaving the White blemish's,it's just something i've read.

There was a batch this year in which a few of the babies have indeed started to develop random patches of bleach white scales on their bodies. Some rather dramatic. It appears to be working like a calico in that these animals started out normal and have picked up white scales with each shed. The white does not appear to effect the black or red scales, only the background greys. Many of these animals made it to the wholesale market prior to the condition surfacing and therefore it's not known exactly how many might be out there, or who may have them. They're also all still very young and it's not known if the condition will progress, stay the same or revert to normal. The animals I've seen also have slightly unique head, side and belly patterning to go along with the bleach white scales. Can you post a pic?
