Veild Blue Phase and where to buy them???

FindaratoT Sep 22, 2004 05:11 PM

Hi i am planning to get a chameleon some time later this fall and i wanted to see where you guys think would be the best place to get one. I've decided on a male veild chameleon and i really love the coloring of their blue phase, Although i've only seen it in pictures. I also want to get one as young as possible and it will be for a pet and will live alone. Can i trust online breeders? which breeders have the best ones for a decent price?

Also i wanted to ask about the color phases. is the blue phase much different from their normal coloring? in pictures the blue phase looks very vivid and wonderful. is this the magic of the lense or are they really like that?
thanks for any help.

I haven't seen many places that offer different "phases" of veields, as with panthers. Most breeders offer/will offer a picture of the sire so you can pick the bluest of them. Showing turquoise spots (in between the brown/tan bars is where you usually find the blue, and its just many many spots, sometimes so dense they appear solid.) is usually when displaying or basking in the morning. I see several different "phases" on my single male veiled and I picked him up from a pet store (please never do that...) and he just turned out well.

Try the kammers or Bluebeastreptiles for veileds, i have never ordered one from an online breeder but have only heard good things from those two.
They have links on the breeders section of this site.

good luck finding a cham

Hey i was just wondering why you say to never get chams at a pet store is it because of the poor conditions or do they ship them multiple times to get them there?
where do people normally get chameleons?

pet stores generally do not know too much about the animals they are keeping which generally leads to health issues. there are some good stores but i dont think its worth the risk of buying an unhealthy animal. i usually get all my herps from local reptile shows or offline. good luck finding you cham.
