I've had my new "yearling" 26 inch cali king for 2 weeks now. The first time I fed him a defrosted fuzzy, he gobbled it up right away, then another one 4 days later. 4 days after that I tried to feed him again and he tasted the fuzzy a few times with his tongue but declined to feed. 2 days later now I'm trying again and he is still not eating. I've heard that cali kings can go off feeding for a while in the fall and winter, so at what point should I become concerned?

At what point should I try to feed him again, and what should I do with the mice he rejects? Can they be refrozen?

Help out a kingsnake newbie.

When my snake doesnt eat I just skip a day and try again. keep trying to feed it the same thing dont switch so fast. im not sure what part of the country your from but im from cali so my snake hybernates in december/january (it will go from 5-12 every 2 weeks to eating 3 mice in that span of a month and a half to 2 months). some people keep the heat high (because snakes eat alot during the hot months)and fool their snakes that the whole year is summer so they never hybernate. you may want to try and turn the heat up for a day then try feeding. I keep it pretty warm all year so it eats realy well then stop the lamp in mid november so it realizes the winter is coming so it will hybernate (i always heard hybenation is good so thats what i do). Its good to get your snake on a plan it will stop crazy eating patterns. Also my snake does that fuzzy rat mouse thing too so dont worry. when i first got my snake all it liked to eat was rats and then it would only eat mice for more than half a year. now its bin eating rats again. If things get real bad i heard that if you open the mouses belly exposing guts they are more likely to eat it. HOPE THIS HELPS..GOOD LUCK
