YAY!!! WE HAVE POOPY!!!!

Charlotte Sep 22, 2004 05:25 PM

The resuce iggy dumped a major load of poo today!!!
Lots and lots of what looks like urates, and tons and tons of solid turds!!
A solid diet and the right conditions is all he needs!

Unfortunantly, now I have a very thin iggy on my hands!
He's outside basking in the sunlight right now, but once he's back inside I'm going to clean his cage, and give him a huge salad of greens and veggies.
Also, before could barely move his left leg and couldn't move his right one at all. He just dragged it.
Now he can move his left leg quite easily and can move his right one too! Still kinda gimping around though. He doesn't have total control of both yet, but he's moving around more, still eating, POOPING!, and his attitude has muchly improved! He now will bow up at me and make a loud hissing sound when I go to pick him up and flare out his dewlap thingy.

I still don't consider myself out of the clear, though.
I'm hoping with some TLC, more hours spent in the sun, and calcium Vitamin D3 (and of cource UVA/UVB lighting when he is inside) that with a little more time we'll have both function of back legs and become healthy again.

Will he ever regain total use of his back legs??
Thanks for ALL the feedback!!
I will keep you all posted.
Charlotte

He couldn't move his arms or legs, and was bloated... after a mild enema at the vet, he dumped a LOAD of poo (in the parking lot of the vet's, in front of some horrified kids) and immediately gained an attitude! He dragged his legs, also. Two legs and one arm were broken (result of MBD).

The vet gave him a calcium shot, and I syringe fed him calcium every day. I gave him lots of attention and lots of outside time, and the right lighting and food... 2 years later, he is fat, sassy, and fully mobile and can climb like nobody's business. He weighs almost 2 pounds, and is 10.5 inches snout to vent.

Don't give up hope! Sounds like you're doing everything right.

I hope his back legs keep improving. IMO don't let him climb, to protect his spine. He's probably fragile right now.

I was wrong- you should try to keep him still. I did have Bud out of the cage a lot though, and I kind of think that since he was sick and didn't have a choice about being handled by humans, he got over his fear of them pretty fast!
