Python won't eat!

corn22 Sep 22, 2004 06:14 PM

About 2 weeks ago I bought a baby children's python, I asked the breeder if he had eaten but he was pretty sure he hadn't. I've tried pinkie mice 5 or 6 times but no luck, I also tried meal worms for about a week but still no luck. Are meal worms ok for food? When should I concider force feeding? Is there some thing else I should try? Anything!! Please help!

how is his setup? do you have hiding places so he feels secure. also make sure temps are correct. i've never had a childrens python but have corns, a milk and a jungle carpet. most likely it's just stress being in a new enviroment and needs more time to settle in.
don't try every day to feed it. that can stress him out even more. some snake are insect eaters but i don't think childrens python are one of them. what was the breeder feeding it? live or f/t?
my year and a half old corn didn't eat for a while but i think that was becasue he's at the age that he wants a mate. hopefully someone else will reply with more info. good luck.

I haven't had much expierence with them myself but I do know 2 weeks is not alot of time. I've had balls go months without any problems. I wouldn't worry about force feeding yet, that should always be an absolute last resort. Leave him be for a few days. If the tank is in a high traffic area you could put a towel over it to help calm the snake. Make sure the snake is secure, lots of places to hide. babies are used to being at the bottom of the food chain. Also, you might get better info in the python forum.
