A 20 gallon tank is way too big for brown snakes. Have potting soil as the substrate. Have rocks and stuff they can hide under. Keep the tank moist, spray it with water once a day. Feed the snakes small cut up worms and slugs.

could try dropping an appropiatly sized slug in front of the snake, when the slug moves the snake should strike and eat, i just found a baby redbelly or brown snake, guess it's that season...... good luck

They love slugs. Get a slug and chop it into very tiny pieces. Put the slug slices on a piece of wax paper and put it into the tank. They'll be attracted by the scent of the slug and feed off the wax paper. I fed red baby belly snakes with this method and it works for brown snakes as well.
Oops--that should read "baby red belly snakes."
