Reptisun 5.0 or 8.0?

LordOfTheLizards Sep 22, 2004 08:30 PM

Hey, im getting a panther cham and i was wondering whether it would be better t get the reptisun 5.0 uvb light or the 8.0 one

on the 8.0 one it shows a pic of a cham so im thinking of getting it but i always read about 5.0 ones

i would have asked the pet stre lizard person but i dont trust pet stores, althouhg here they actually had good conditions (apart from the substrate, one panther nearly ate a whole pieace)

I don't think the difference between them is very significant.

I saw that mixture too in a petland in manhattan. The same store also mixed bearded dragons with crested geckos (a fatal combination temperature wise).

I have been using reptiglo 8.0's for well over a year and have found they work great for all my zoo! When I used my friends UVB meter a few months back and measured my 6month old 5.0 and 6month old 8.0's I found that my 5.0's were well below the "advertized" output while my 8.0's were still well above the 5.0's optimum output. I am getting ready to re-measure my 8.0's which are now about a year old to see where they sit (I have newer bulbs in with the older ones just in case of degradation).

I will post the results here once I get some measurements.
