Do box turtles shed?

I have a ornate that has shed a part of it shell and it looks like the other peices will do the same the shell under where it shedded looks healthy but I had no idea if this is normal?Help Brandon

during growth they'll often shed some scutes it's normal, older turtles will sometimes shed the scutes leaving an boney type appearence, but sheding is normal and thats how they get growth rings.
