Attention all Canadians: Feeder Survey

chimbakka Sep 23, 2004 03:15 PM

I'm just wondering if everyone from Canada could answer a few ?s for me.
1, where do you buy feeder insects and rodents from (online, store, etc)? If more than one place, please state how often you use each one.
2, How much do you generally spend per week on feeders for your herps?
3, What kinds of feeders do you use, and how often? In which of the places in question one do you obtain what feeders?
4, Are you interested in knowing where the feeders were bred and their conditions?
5, If you've never ordered online, why not?
Thankyou you so much!!! I really appreciate all of the imput I can get!!!
Since i'm being so nosey, I'll answer them myself also...
1, pet store
2, $5-10, 10cents per cricket, $1 per silkie, 15 cents per waxworm, 12 cents per superworm,6 cents per mealworm. Yikes!
3, lol, oops i went over that in 3, and i mostly use superworms
4, yup
5, I don't need large orders on insects, Orion eats very little... I am looking into getting some silkworms online though.

I get mine at a pet store as well, oinline insects cost more than at a store including the (incredibly dumb) shipping charges of 25-40$ for 1k crix. I feed mostly crickets, and a random bug i've caught once a week or so to my male veiled (the females eat no matter what, they don't have a choice over what to eat if theyre trying to make eggs, right?)

I recently paid 50$ for 1k crix, any other time its about 9c a cricket. around 20c per superworm, about 3c per mealworm (don't use em) and 20c apiece for waxies.

The only reason i would move to the states other than work would be for the reptile industry!!! (go canada)

per week...i would say i spend about 10$ on feeders. My brother's baby beardie is also eating out of that stash so so far i'm doing pretty well. Remind youself that all my chams are adults and eat 6 crix every 2 days, or other insects insted of the 6 crix.

were you get the crickets online? because 40$ for shipping is too much. i am from puerto rico and they only charge me 40$ if is overnite.

Yes, that would be $40 overnight from an online shop. That was only one or two sites, but shipping from other sites is similar, around $30-35. The $50 I paid for the 1k crix was from a reptile show business where I am now volunteering. They have one nosey be, but they don't know much about it. There is experienced veiled keeper and breeder there, who keeps adequate care of the little one but I informed him on a few things, such as its sex (already showing distinct blue bars w/light greyish-blue background and a slightly wide tailbase, I told him it was a male becuase he was calling it a female). It's being kept in a glass-sided vivarium with a screen top...The only reason I'm not flipping out is because he had kept his 8-year old proven breeder veiled in there, who only recently passed away.

sorry to get off-topic lol but theres the answer up at the top
