I have a qustion about slate.
I bought a few pieces of slate.
I was wondering what is the
best way ro go about cleaning it?
So there are no germs or bacteria.

If you have a soup pan large enough, you can boil it. Clean it first to get dirt and crud off, then toss it in and boil it for a while.

Not really, but I know with rocks and some woods (like driftwood) you can throw it in the oven and bake it for a bit. Extreme heat kills bacteria as well. I'm not sure about bacteria that can live in water, and with it only being possibly in the low 100C's...

I use slate for all my lizards, basking spots, hides, big slabs as well as smaller.

I scrub the big slabs in hot water in my tub, I sprinkle ajax or comet on the slab and scrub with a scrub brush.
And then rinse well a few times with hot water, dry and return it.

I figure, ajax has bleach for killing germs, but the smell is not over powering or lingering as reg. bleach or disinfectants.

I use enough to clean I dont cover with ajax.

I have done this for years and it has not harmed anyone yet!
