Weird question for you breeders

Thera Jun 26, 2003 09:20 PM

Ok, I was thinking today about my precious Bubbles and how she's now 3 years old, meaning that she'll probably give me another 3 or 4 good years yet. And then I thought about all those female dragons at the large scale breeders... and I thought...
What happens when they get too old to breed safely? What do they do with them? Risk their lives still breeding them? Adopt them out? Put them down?
I was thinking about this cos I know some people who breed dogs and they told me how some larger scale dog breeders put down their females when they are no longer "of use".
Now I know everyone here loves their dragons as children, but have you ever considered what places like Sandfire Dragon Ranch does with older animals?

I also notice that almost all dragons advertised in the classifieds are 2 years and younger. Isn't that kinda odd? Where are all the older dragons?

I personally plan to keep my dear sweet Bubbles into her golden years. But I can't help wonder about those who live their lives as breeder animals.

well the males are probably kept for a long time, gettting lots of action...but the females, idk thats kinda sad. I think someone dedicated enoguh can contact them all and adopt in alllll the old ones for a good life into the golden years until death. But then again, i bet most of them are bred too young, therefore wont live much longer than 6? im not totally sure...just my 2 cents
