Whitesided Bull questions

Misskiwi67 Sep 23, 2004 06:00 PM

Hello,

I have been thinking about getting a hognose for the past couple weeks, but I'm thinking about changing my mind after seeing one of these beauties in the classifieds. The baby is, as advertised, a screamer, and I was curious if all babies have clean sides, or if their pattern bleeds a bit as they get older. Also, can anyone post photos of their adult whitesides. I've done searches both on kingsnake and on google, and can't find enough info or eye candy. Also, how are bull snakes in general as pets? I got the idea that everyone here is pleased with them, and that they're great feeders, but that's about it. Any information and opinions are welcomed, and photos would be HIGHLY appreciated, especially if you could compare babies and adults.

Smiles,
Alinda

Well, I have never kept hognose, but I know a little about them and can tell you that there will be a huge difference in the accommodations for the two. Hognose are going to reach a length of maybe 2.5 feet and are really laid back in general. A bullsnake is going to be a 4 to 7 foot snake that is highly active and requires quite a bit more space, not to mention food.

Now, I absolutely love Bulls, so as long as you won't have a problem with the above, go for it. Actually, why don't you get one of each? That's what I do when I can't decide between two wants!!

As far as the sides of whitesides, they can vary quite a bit, some stay fairly clean white, but many become more grayed and have a "speckled" appearance. Both extremes are very nice looking in my opinion.
