about Metal Halide and MVB and UV output

figuerres Sep 23, 2004 06:56 PM

just an FYI for some folks who may not know:

there are a whole slew of lights out there for many uses.

some are made for tanning boths with certain specs.

others are made for use with reptiles.

still others are made for growing plants and

others are made for saltwater tanks with live coral.

and then there are many kinds of stadium lights and security flood lamps.

all of them make "Light" that we can see.

some of them are very costly as they use quartz glass and have special kinds of filimants or rare gasses.
they tend to be hard to find... you have to order them from a specialty suppier or from a wholesale light shop.

a few marine lights have been adapted to use with reptiles.

coral need UVB much like reptiles.

but no lights you get at the normal hardware suppy will have the right UV for your herps or your marine tank.

just to let folks know as I have 55 Gallon reef and a BD
(the reef has a $400 lighting system)
