i think they're new on my bp. anyone seen this before ?
Could you go into more detail, and maybe post a pic?
i tried taking a picture, didn't turn out good ... anyways, i checked to see if they're moving (mites), and they weren't. do you know how much a trip to the vet costs ?
Im not sure, but if we can identify it for you, It would cost a lot less. It is your choice wether or not you take it to the vet, I probably would not waste the money unless my snake was acting weird. But then again, I would try to get a pic up ASAP. Your choice I guess.
If you are referring to the little dots that seem to be tucked just under the edge of the ventral scales, you probably are looking at a fungus. The only way to be sure is to have it checked out under a microscope.
Treatment usually prescribed is to ensure bedding is clean and dry to inhibit further fungal growth, and to treat with Silvadine or another anti-fungal...I personally would recommend a store brand tube of mycelex (used to treat yeast infections) or any other similiar creme.
Oh yeah...if you don't want to visit the "women's" department or have to check out with a tube of vaginal cream, you can opt for an athlete's foot treatment (same ingredient-miconazole).
does fungus come from moss, cause as soon as i made him a humidity retreat box with damp moss inside, i noticed some black stuff around his vents !!!
I think you may be refering to the animals spurs.
One small hook type thing on either side of its vent?
One more thing, is this Landon?
Are you reffering to the infamous "Python Expert" on the BC forum?
Could be ticks. I found some on my JCP dug in behind a few scales here and there. pulled out with tweezers (may be a little more difficult to get the snake to stay still as it's in the vent) and then treated with black knight roach killer. or it could be dried feces. check the next few feces samples as well as look around in the enclosure pretty good. also i'd check on the face (near nostrils/mouth/eyes). i noticed the ticks on my JCP while i was handling her. let your snake curve around a hand and hold it in the light so you can see behind the scales as it slithers forward. If you see any black spots, remember where they are. You probly won't be ablet to get too good a look without a microscope or magnifying glass. also, all of this will be easier to do with an accomplice. Good luck. hopefully after the next defication all black stuff will be gone without a trace.
