drummagirl Sep 23, 2004 10:22 PM

Gotta show off the kids

The picture quality isn't great, but I like them!

And in this corner, weighing 14 pounds, Big Red!!

Crappy shot, but all I could get for a size ref

Little miss Delilah didn't want to be left out

Thanks for putting up with all the pics

Carole

And danced the sky on laugher-silvered wings...
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence"

Hey Carole,
Those are some awesome pictures of you and the gang. I love the reds, and they seem so perfectly at home, roaming the house with you at the watch. Very nicely done.

Thanks Angel Luckily I live with a friend who enjoys watching the animals roam around. Can't convince her to hold one yet though!

I enjoyed reading your profile...NY living, I'm jealous! Any chance you'll be at Tinley? I didn't see you reply to Kara's post, but thought I'd ask on the chance of some small glimmer of hope

You maybe shouldn't have mentioned you were a photographer though, as now I know who to hound for photo advice! hehehe Any pics of your pup? American Pit Bull Terrier, right?

Everything settling down for ya? Take care!

Hey Carole,
I would love to meet you too, however, other commitments keep me from making the trip. I hope to make it some day though. It really sounds like a great one.

Sweet pics! Ol' Big Red just may have pushed me over the edge into needing another red. Hmmm...

Anything to 'help' another blood-fanatic with their addiction

I'm pretty sure this place is a bad influence, but then again, I'm pretty sure you need another blood

Hi Drumma,Thanks for posting pics of big red he's getting redder and redder just like my male.By seeing the color change in your blood, and mine, helps me feel secure that a snake that isn't originally red will have a chance of being a red adult reguardless.I originally fell in love with that oxblood color that's why I got into bloods in the first place.I also love the shape of Big Reds head, and my little 03 female I got from Kara has the same distinctive head shape(flared nostrils and the thick head muscles)SAAWEEET!!!!(hope you can see what I mean.I will try to get better head shots)

He looks great - I miss him sooo much!! And Miss Delilah is just turning soooo pretty!

Do you ever see Red do the "silver head fade" at all? There were nights I'd go in to check on him & his head was almost white - stunning contrast to his dark red coloration.

That's a fine-looking family you've got there. I'm jealous!

You've got a nice red collection going on there Carole. Ms. Delilah seems like shes gonna be a real looker pretty soon... and who couldn't love a big dark red snake?!?

man thats a great looking group, i noticed you are holding yours pretty easily, i have heard they tolerate being held for pretty much a few minutes before they get really fussy, what is the temperment on yours like?

drummagirl Sep 24, 2004 08:31 PM

As far as their moods, and handling;

Big Red is a sweetheart

The yellow/brown big girl is very protective of her cage space. Once out however, she behaves, she just likes to talk to ya

The little one is an absolute doll

As far as handling, something to keep in mind with bloods is that they're strictly terrestrial (sp?). Unlike boas, colubrids, or practically any other snake I can think of, they don't seem to have the concept of being off the ground. Mine will anchor their tails around my hand, but they can't really coil their bodies to get a good grip on ya. They don't feel very secure hanging in the air like that, and try to get somewhere else that does feel secure. Bloods can be amazingly 'runny' snakes when they want to! What I'm getting at here (trust me, there is a point ) is that I think they get 'fussy' because they're simply uncomfortable off the ground. Both of my big bloods get squirmy (fussy) after a few minutes of being held. However, once I take a seat, both of them relax. One of my favorite pasttimes with these guys is to sit down and watch some tv with them. They seem very content to curl up in my lap, and after a while they usually slither down and do a little bit of exploring.

I'm not the most elequent writer, but I think I'd sum it up like this: They aren't fussy because of a bad attitude, they're *to me* fussy because they want some something solid underneath them.

Hope that helped some!

You certainly can "read" your babies on an individual basis...you'd be surprised how many folks take that for granted with their critters.
