These pics have been around for awhile. My understanding is that they were debunked as fakes. They used to claim it was an anaconda.

You have to think logically. Unless this snake was dissected within like 5 minutes of eating that person, there is no way that skin would be 100% fully intact on the legs as it shows. snakes digestive juices are extremly strong, have you ever noticed that about 30-45 seconds after the mouse your snake just ate is in its belly, you can't even see it any more? It has already digested the skin and crushed the bones. and you wonder why didnt they pull out the whole person? Because his face would have been totally digested and they didnt want to waste the time in photoshop to disfigure that much...it would have been way too hard. ok fine it took me closer to a minute to type this but still.

That one is fake... but on Drudgereport2004 (and several other souces) awhile ago they had pictures of a 49 foot 950 pound python that they caught in Asia. Apparently it was true, and this snake is still in captivity somewhere.

That snake in Indonesia (somewhere on Java, if I remember correctly) made the news for a while. However, when a credible reporter went and checked it out, he estimated the length against known lengths of planks, etc. in the cage and figured it around 23 feet (if I remember correctly). That's a big retic, but not 45 feet.
The owners wouldn't allow anyone to actually measure it. Wonder why? Hmmmmmm.
Also funny how the refutation didn't make headlines the way the original report did. Guess the truth wasn't as interesting as the fiction.
Reminds me of the Mars rocks showing evidence of "life". When it was released without much peer review by NASA, it was front page news all over the world. When other credible scientists refuted it repeatedly, noone was listening. Therefore, most people still believe we found life on Mars.

I believe it was fed live dogs and monkeys and was believed to be the reincarnated medicine man of some ancient Indonesian tribe. I remember watching a report on TV and I was laughing my head off. What a joke!

The Reptizone
Never saw the follow up... but I did find it just a little hard to believe that it exceeded the previous record lengths by 12 feet. If I remember right the record length for a snake was 37 feet by a Anaconda? The report I saw on it was on the discovery channel, it was from awhile ago (1970's?).
Same thing could be said about alot of science things. More often than not the story is refuted by 90% of the community, but somehow ends up on the front page of "Science" and "Discover" magazine. The media says what they want people to hear, which is in some cases total lies.
Some people are out to make a quick $ just to look like fools later...

I don't believe there are any authenticated anaconda specimens over 23 feet. Doesn't seem likely that a giant out there would happen to be 60% larger than the next largest specimen. If that was likely, you should keep your eyes out for a 14 foot bullsnake or a 10 foot cal king.
There have been a couple of retics authenticated just over 30 feet, but I believe they were long-term captives.

Bummer... snake myths! Bah!
Biggest snake currently in captivity is a 27 foot burmese python... Some Zoo in Asia has it. I've seen it on TV several times, and it was definately real, and not very nice.

Yeah, I live a bout 20 minutes away from there and have visited Baby on more than none occaision (she's HUGE). They also (among other things) have a nile crocodile and I recall hearing that they had to replace the glass of the encloser with some kind of shatter proof material as she/he lunged at some visitors and cracked the glass.

One female Eastern Indigo. That's right, just one snake. But she's my dream-snake, so back off man.

As stated by others, those pics have been around a while.
Somewhere, there is a third pic in the top series, which seems to be "forgotten". It shows the very same snake in the bed of that truck cut open to show......a small calf. An amazing feet by itself, but not a human.
