Ball Python Appraisal Guide for Dummies

CJBianco Sep 24, 2004 08:31 AM

So...when I first began looking at all the different morphs, I could hardly see a difference. Now I readily see some differences, while many still go unnoticed. What I need is a Ball Python Appraisal Guide for Dummies. A step-by-step illustration of how PROFESSIONAL breeders evaluate individual Ball Pythons. For instance:

1. Look for alien head eyes. Does it have two large eyes? Several small speckles? No eyes at all?

2. Do the alien heads connect from opposite sides creating tanned "bands" across the snake? Do they connect side-by-side creating large tan side-splotches instead of smaller separate heads?

3. What patterns if any are on the back? Solid lines running the length of the snake? Circles? Dashes?

Okay. You get the idea. Anyone know of a site that may give a step-by-step guide for evaluating individual Ball Pythons?

Keep in mind, I am NOT looking for a Blue Book to determine a snake's "worth", just something to help me train my eye for the details.

Thanks,
Chris =)

I would also like to see a web page with all the different phases and morphs so i could educate myself more on the subject and try to understand the pricing of all of them.

Again...Ralph Davis' site has some great info on various morphs, but very little in the way of what to look for. IMHO
