New Yellows

BillyBoy Sep 24, 2004 12:48 PM

These are both locally collected, S. FL locale yellows. Below is the male who is around 30". He took a f/t rat fuzzy from my hands the very first night. What a champ!

>>Here's the female. She's a little smaller and a little darker (more orangey), but also took a f/t rat fuzzy her first night. They are night and day with their attitudes with him being real mellow and inquisitive and her being full of piss and vinegar. Enjoy! Billy

Yup, she's a dark one. I actually suspect she may be going into shed but still, the orange on her ventral side is pretty intense. Most of the yellow rats I see are a nice bright yellow underneath, so we'll see how she colors up over time. I did not collect them myself, but know the guy who did, and I *think* they were taken out in western Broward County.

What a beautiful nose!! Not all pushed in like mine. The female, who I don't have a pic of has a horribly pushed in nose. Fantastic pics!! Lovely colour.

Thanks Katt! They are mine too! I have been keeping herps for almost 30 years and have never had a yellow. I remember reading about them as a little kid growing up in NJ and there was definitely some kind of romance about the big yellow "chicken" snakes from the deep south. They have always been on my wish list, but I was always too busy with the more glamorous species of boids etc. Anyway, I am really enjoying them! Trust me, I think you all will be seeing lots of these two in the future! Billy
