ANTS in the snake pants!

mariatorres1983 Sep 24, 2004 01:30 PM

Help! I have ants! I have the ants from hell kind; tiny, red, stinging ants that are not attracted to fat or sweets traps. I do not know how to treat the problem without causing harm to my ball. I have a non-toxic mint oil spray, but I do not know if that is toxic to ball pythons. I've been cleaning out the almost every day, sanitizing it, but still the buggers keep getting back in to the cage. Luckily, my ball gets to spend a great deal of time out of the tank, but he has to go back in for heat and water. Please help, I need to get rid of those darn ants!
Thanks,
Maria

hello there....well i too had a problem with ants last year. what i did to keep them from coming into my room was i used baby powder. i just poured some baby powder along the edges of my room and along the electrical sockets. then i lefted the tanks and poured some more baby powder underneath them. i haven't had any ants in my room since then. the dryness of the powder will refrain the ants from crossing through it. you might want to give that a try. it's worked great for me.

I'll give the baby powder a shot. Boric acid and cayenne are a no-no here. Have cats, including one who likes to eat chemicals. He ate laquer thinner a few years ago. I researched the pro-vent-a-mite, but read it may cause neural defects, so I'll give the baby powder a shot. Thanks y'all!
