I have a male veiled cham, about 4 months old , his cage is on my bedroom and I live in a duplex so eveything is on one floor, My two roomates and I smoke pot in the house and my boyfriend was wondering if the smoke could harm the cham...any ideas?

I would believe so. As humans have lungs and since chams have lungs then they would pretty much be subjected to the same as us, but on a much larger scale as with an infant. (because of the smaller size)

If we are subjected to second hand smoke fairly often its almost just as bad as taking and smoking a cigarette.

If chameleons where immune to this and wheren't bothered by this, scientists would have long figured that out and started testing these animals a long time ago to see if there was anything they could do to prevent the long term effects on humans, such as cancer.

Hope this helps,

Lu

ummmm - yeah ;/ They have all the same organs that we do (more or less) and are living organisms. If there is any way you can keep your cham separate when you are smoking (anything) the better. They are not very long-lived and you may be shortening it that much more. Would you subject your baby to pot (or cigarette) smoke? I would hope not. Keep the bedroom door shut and smoke in a roomates room. Think about incense, too - if you use it.

Be good to your cham

Thanks for the suggestions..we do smoke in a different room than the cham, necer in the same room, and the door to the room is usually closed but I will be extra careful since I don't want to harm him or anything. Thanks guys! =)

Pretty sure I read somewhere that this has been documented. After the cham died (owner was a heavy smoker) the chams lungs were examined and there were black spots everywhere. So yeah - no smoke of any kind should be around the cham. So at 4:20 ... shut the door and open some windows.

pot also has a heavier tar concentration than cigarettes do so it may actually be a little worse, however, i believe it has been proven that there is little to no risk of lung damage from second hand smoke...the percentages are incredibly low...i can't remember the exact numbers...the next time i see the episode on "penn and tellers...Bull****" about it i'll put it in the permanant memory bank
