I need some advice on my new turtles

YASIN1 Sep 24, 2004 04:59 PM

Hey guys;

I bought an albino red ear slider and a black knobbed sawback. They are both babies.

I researched and learnt that they can get along pretty well...so there won't be any fights or anything else.

However I guess the sawback needs a filter? What if I use distilled water and change it every other day... does it matter?

And also I'd appriciate any other advice..
Thanks
Yasin

I have two small res and from what everyone has told me and I have read that they are very messy. I use a duetto filter in my tank and I change the water halfway about once a week or everyother week. Also I was advised to feed them in a seperate container to help create less waste. I'm not sure about the two different types together.

Don't use distilled water, turtles need the minerals that are in normal water. All turtles benefit from filters, it makes your job much easier too. You will need a huge tank eventually and changing the water daily won't be an option.

i have 3 RES and one eastern mud in an indoor pond because its getting cold in PA but i have baby RES (offspring) of the 3 RES and i need to change the water every day because they are very messy. i would feed them in a separate tank and then leave them in there for about 15 minutes because they will go to the bathroom after eating (or mine do)
good luck with your turtles
