"Bubbles" behind front legs?

makikato Sep 24, 2004 09:37 PM

Hello,

I have a leopard gecko that has never had any real issues and I've never had to take him into the vet. I have just earlier noticed what I can only describe as "bubbles," little inflammations or some such just behind and lower than the backs of his front legs (behind the joint where the leg connects to the body).

He seems as normal as he usually is - I don't handle him alot so there's not any noticable change in his activity. Last Sunday's feeding... the pet store gave me a good amount of extra crickets but I didn't think much of it at the time - could this be a symptom of over feeding?

I worry that there's a serious problem - I can take pictures if necessary but if anyone has any answers from general knowledge of this sort of issue I'd greatly appreciate the input.

Thanks,
maki

It seems this question has come up a LOT this year, as far as I can say.. it's fat storage unless it actually turns out to be a inflamed area, don't worry.. he's just healthy

Well.. that would be a relief. Makes sense. I'll just keep an eye out. Thanks for your reply...

definitely fat storage. i would feed him less, so that he doesn't have those extra pockets, but most breeders disagree with me. my vet just keeps lecturing me that most leopard geckoes are overweight, and so have reduced life spans, because of the toll on their liver (or something like that). basically, if it's not being bred, it doesn't need to have the armpit storage, just a fat tail is fine.

These are just fat reserves and a sign of a well fed, happy leo. GOOD JOB!
