introducing tokays

fliptop Sep 24, 2004 10:55 PM

Soon I will be introducing females to my male tokay. He's in a 55-gallon tank (yeah, I know, not the recommended size--soon I'll have enough pennies saved up for a larger tank), and the two girls will join him in there.

Is there anything I have to be careful about? E.g., should I remove him, change the bedding and the arrangement, and introduce them to the space at the same time?

Thanks!

I wouldn't change anything around before you introduce them. That is his territory and any changes may cause enough stress to keep him from breeding which possibly may not happen right away anyways. If the females are kept together already I would intro them at the same time. Just keep a close eye on their behaviors when putting the females in with the male. Does your male know the females are around and calls to them?
