Super Inactive RES

silverhalo Sep 24, 2004 11:06 PM

Hmm...I recently noticed that my 1 1/2 inch RES hatchling is super inactive. Well, he kind of sleeps all day long in the same spot, and doesn't seem to be interested in food much (always used to be ravenous). I changed the time the UV light goes on/off by 3 hours (so it turns on at 9am instead of 12pm). And I also just realized that I've been overfeeding him...but not to the point that he has shell rot symptoms described in other threads.
So, does anyone have any idea why the sudden change? Or is this a fairly normal behavior? Turds are such weird creatures...

Thanks,
Steve

He could be sick, I would take him to the vet. Lethargy is a sign of a respritory infection. Turtles may doze off while basking, but they should be active and swimming for a good part of the day.

You mentioned UV light. Is this UVA or UVB?

The set-up that I like best and works very well is a
regular household lightbulb and a Reptisun 5.0 UVB
fluorescent light positioned above the basking area.
The wattage of the household bulb should make the temp
at the basking spot 85 degrees. Make sure there is a range
of temperatures in its enclosure. The water should be cooler
at about 74-76 degrees for babies.

Put the lights on a timer to go on at 7am and off at 7pm.

Give more details in regards to your setup for your baby.
