Calico Burmese?

Justyn Jun 26, 2003 11:28 PM

Ok, here it goes. A customer came into my friends shop today with a 6 foot Burmese. It just shed out 2 days ago. It now has approximately 20-40 white 1/2-inch "spots" on it. The customer was worried about his snake. He purchased this animal as a CH from my friend about a year ago. I'll see if I can post some pics of these spots, they are rather interesting. They do not occur on the underside of the snake nor on the head. Their is a total loss of pigmentation in these areas and the Burmese looks similar to some of the calico retics I've seen but not that drastic. The spot does seem like blistering might have caused them as a couple of them looked a little bit "raw". We reviewed his husbandry and everything seems up to par. There were no blisters prior to shedding as their were no spots. The scales are not damaged. I am sure any burns or bacterial infections did not cause it. I recommended getting some scrapings with looked at via a vet to see if it might be fungal? If he sheds out again with more white "patches" I think it might be something similar to the calico corn Tim Rainwater was working with. Any ideas? I will try to get some pics.

Well I'm not certain what this could be. You say these spots were NOT apparant before the shed? o_o I'd LOVE to see some pictures...

I had something kind-of similar to this happen to my ball python a year or so ago, and I've heard it happening to other ball pythons too. She looked normal, she shed, and suddenly she had this odd white spot on her, just the are of about three scales. It was towards the end of her and on her back. Looked like she was turning into a pie-bald ball python

A few sheds later, and it was completely gone. I have no idea what caused it, no idea what the hell it was, but it was totally wild. The below picture is the best picture I ever got of it. Possibly the same thing as the burm? I dunno.. maybe someone else can help out as I know my post didnt much

Nope, no spots before the shed, and now 20-40 of them! Looks a bit different and larger then your ball's spotting. I'll see if I can get soem pics.
Thanks
