Black WLP's...

PristinePythons Sep 25, 2004 09:55 AM

Are they born jet black or do they go from a brown to a black? I'm just curious as I saw a vender in the classifieds has a pair that I'd like to pick up but want to double check and make sure they are blacks! Please shoot me an e-mail or post below.

Hi,

well, babies from the black white-lipped pythons are sometimes darker than the ones from the golden, but not always. Usually both are very dark brown, with a greyish-brown belly.
But different from golden ones, the black wlps have only one pair of parietals (golden ones have two). If you want more specific information send me an email at wulf@leiopython.de.

Cheers,
Wulf

In my experience, Black babies hatch not black, but kinda dull grey with sharp black heads. They look quite similar to hatchling golds, unless you have seen a lot of babies and then they become easier to diferentiate. One thing with Blacks, neonates are much larger than the Golds with 20" and 40 grams out of the egg being common. Golds are significantly smaller. The major differences become apparent as quickly as the first shed. Blacks start to darken up and Golds start to lighten up.

Hope this helps.
