Cage Questions

gophersnake13 Sep 25, 2004 10:19 AM

I plan to get a water dragon soon and I was wondering how long could a young dragon live in a 30L x 13D x 18H (in inches) terrarium until it gets too big. Also can an adult dragon be kept in a Reptarium?

Dragons can grow to over 2 feet in one year. Mine stay in the trees and water a lot more than they do on they ground. With your cage being so narrow and short, I would say that they won't be able to comfortably stay in there very long. Maybe a few months if they are small now.

The reptarium would not allow for high humidity. I also worry about dragons loosing nails or toes in the screen.

There are water dragons, chameleons, frilled dragons, pythons, and monitors in my jungle room.

I agree with the above about keeping your dragon in such a narrow cage. They really do grow quickly!!

As far as the reptariums go, a good friend of mine houses her 3ft male Quasi in a 100gallon reptarium and he does fine. As far as the humidity goes, she mists him frequently and he has a "pond" made out of a horse water dish with a filter that takes up most of the bottom of the cage and allows for a nice dip whenever he feels the need! The good thing about reptariums is they allow for good ventalation which is important for lizards whos cages can easily get damp (like water dragons) and reduces the chances for fungal infections and various rots.
