Nose rub

miki00 Sep 25, 2004 11:01 AM

I took my ball python out of it's cage a while ago and noticed that his nose was like "peeling". I think its because he rubs it against the screen top in an atempt to escape. What can i do to prevent/treat it?
Thanks

Ball's begin a good shed with the skin on the nose. Have you seen him shed yet? (Sorry if you are experienced and this is obvious).

Otherwise, put on neosporin or something similar. My male rubs on the lid a lot too, no damage yet, but I recommend a taller cage or removing the things he's climbing on to get up there.

I know most people don't want to just chuck their cage and get a taller one. But, if this is an option for you, I also recommend going to tubs, no screen lid at all.

Yes, i've seen him shed, but he doesn't have signs of shedding, he has not been "in blue". I'll be making an acrylic cage soon for him.
I'll try the neosprin solution.

I've heard that you need to be sure to get the Original formula of Neosporin. There's another kind they make that has pain medicine in it and I've heard to avoid it.
