Question about tank lenght ?

urofanatic24 Sep 25, 2004 01:36 PM

My baby tegu is finally losing her green head. I'll get pics asap. She is 18 inches long at about 2 months old. She is currently in a 38 inch by 19 inch tank. I just helped my friend build a 8 ft by 4 ft by 3 ft tank for his tegu, which is about 3 1/2 or 4 ft long. I'm just wondering when i should move her into another tank considering i've only had her about 1 1/2 months. I was planing on making her 8 by 4 by 3 tank like my friends but just sectioning it off or will it be ok that big ??? I really dont think so and think ill section it off until she's about 2 1/2 foot before i let her have the whole thing. Please let me know.

i bought 2 tegus the other day. we had a tank built for them which is a 12ft'er. they both seem quite happy in there.

Bert at Asgama International reccommends 32 square feet for an adult. That's a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood. I made mine 9 1/2 by 3. Rufus seems prety content. I let him out to run around the room in the basement some times. The tank I built is made to go on a short wall. Draw, redraw and draw again until you get the tank you want.

Don't wait. I kept my one month old tegu in a 40 gallon for 2 weeks and it damaged its tail twice. I built a 6x3 for him.
