supplementation of vitamins?

kich4theanswer Sep 25, 2004 04:23 PM

Hey everyone, I have a quick question for you. I have been dusting my new cham. with rep-cal calcium mixed with re-cal herptivite(multivitamins) 6 days of the week and miner-all(multi-mineral supplement) one day of the week. Now somebody told me that to much supplementation is toxic to the animal. Am what i'm doing ok? Is it to much? Are my brands of supplements good? Also i have knoticed that my cham. had been basking with his mouth open, is this action nornal with vieleds? It might not have anything to do with this, but i'm still a little confussed. Thanks for your help!

Hmm..I've heard that you should use Rep-Cal 6 days a week and Herptivite just one. If your cham is under 10 months old. Then when they are older switch to Rep-Cal only 3-4 times a week.

I would like someone to check this over too please, it's so hard finding good info!

Some people's schedules vary. I like to do mine on a weekly basis (rather than every ten days, etc) because I'm very busy and that way I know if it has been done or not.
Babies: first week: calcium 4 days, vit 2 days, min 1 day,
second week, calcium 4 days, vit 1 day, min 2 days

juvies: calcium 3 days, vit and min each one day

adults: calcium 2 days, vit and min each one day

some people like to do it on a ten or 11 day cycle

babies: 1 - c, 2 - c, 3 - c, 4 - v, 5 - c, 6 - c, 7 - c, 8 - m, 9 - c, 10 - c, 11 - c etc.

juvies, 1 - c, 2 - nothing, 3 - c, 4 - v, 5 - nothing, 6 - c, 7 - nothing, 8 - vit, 9 - nothing, 10 - c, 11 - nothing, etc

adults, 1 - c, 2&3 - nothing, 4 - v, 5&6 - nothing, 7 - c, 8&9 - nothing, 10 - c, 11 nothing, etc

so that you have a one day on, two days off, one day on, rotating calcium and vit and minerals so that you have more calcium than minerals and vit... is this making sense?

a lot of it also depends on how well your crix are gutloaded. if you are making the gutload yourself from a good recipe (adcham, etc) and using veggies also, then you can use the min and vit and calc less often.

if you want me to elaborate more let me know.. .lol

only use pure calcium 4 days a week, and the vitamin once a week and them minerall once a week, not on the same days as each other.
once he is an adult use calcium 2 - 3 times a week and the other 2 once a week each

Thanks, it's nice to know what real herpers actually do for their animals!!

I was under the impression that Herpvitite and Miner-all were the same thing, just different brand names. Is this not true? Good thing to find out before I get the cham!

I'm pretty sure that minerall has the same vitamins as herpative (sp?).. I compared them once and decided to just use the minerall, but I honestly cant remember all of the details.. lol
