Help with my Baby Blood please

BloodPythonMama Sep 25, 2004 07:21 PM

well the header sounds as desperate as I feel at the moment...A week ago we were shipped a Blood Python that is absolutely beautiful and actually pretty docile. We offerred her a pup the day we got her and she took it readily. My question is this....since last Friday ( the day we got & fed her last ) should I be concerned she's not interested in feeding again? We got her 2 pups ...one on Wednesday, she turned it down (fresh kill not live) then yesterday ( Fri) we got her another with the same results...so today ...figuring we shouldn't have done a fresh kill....we offerred a pup (eyes not opened ) and all she did was strike it 3-4 times. Am I being too paranoid?

Two problems you are most likly facing . First never feed a brand new animal to your collection I ALWAYS wait 1-2 weeks there is a aclimation period in which the animal is very nervous and stressed. Now you dodged a bullet and most likly will be fine but I have heard of animals regurgitating after being fed to soon. 2nd most babies only need to be fed every 7-10 days but again with yours being new you may have a little longer between feeds now. PLEASE describe your set up her other facters could be involved IE to bigg of enclosur/not enough good hides, to hot, to cold, to much traffic , to much handling

yeah Kevin's right...I think it was a mistake to have fed the snake on the first day

Give the snake a week or two to acclimate...I'm sure you'd be stressed too if you'd been put in a box and shipped to a strange place...make sure the snake is warm enough (82 should be good) and has a tight, secure hide spot and keep the enclosure in a calm place

good luck
