cage question....

lissag25 Jun 27, 2003 12:01 AM

ok.. I'm building a new cage for my adult male beardie Spikezilla and i have a question on materials.... i get free wood, lexan, screen.. from my dad's work and free labor (he's a carpenter hehehe) and i was wonder what i should use.. lexan or screen for the front of the cage...does screen hold heat well. is it better for ventilation... is snout rubbing a problem with anyone else... Spikey can be a little aggressive with his reflections in the glass sometimes (even with the background) and how does 48Lx30Wx30h sound for dims...

p.s. I'll try to post pics of Spikezilla and my new babie beardie this weekend...

Screen does not hold the heat to well. Another bad thing about it is the crickets and the beardie can climb it. Yes screen can be also very abrasive to their snouts. Since your dad is a carpenter I would get plexi glass sliding doors in the front, screen the top for the light to shine in, or make a solid wood top and wire the lights right inside the cage. Use wood for the sides and add 3 X 8 inch vents on either side. I have tanks like this made of melamime and they are very good, you can stack them too if he wires the lights inside for you. Just a suggestion.

we've made a 6x3x5 cage like that for my water dragons.... i was thinking about doing the same in my beardie cage but couldn't solve how to keep humidity low... the vent idea is great.. thanks again....
