Pictures of My Snake Room *Dial-up Warning*

wetceal Sep 25, 2004 11:23 PM

I call this "my" Snake Room because it is the room that I clean. I (foolishly LOL) volunteered to clean the baby room this year so of course we built and added more racks and this is what I've to clean every week now!

This is our baby room and just guessing, I'd say there are probably around 1500 to 2000 babies in this room - Corn Snakes, Kingsnakes, Milksnakes, Hognose, Ball morphs, Boa morphs, Blood Pythons, BRB's, and I think that's everyone. Cleaning this rooms takes up most of my Saturday and Sunday working for anywhere between 5 to 6 hours straight.

It's a 10'x12' room. Just thought you guys might enjoy seeing it...

It's a BIG job but somebody's gotta do it!

Thanks for looking,
Celia

This is what you see standing at the doorway...

Standing at the doorway, to the right are all the normal baby Ball pythons

In the center of the room is the newest rack that we just built. Baby Colubrids are housed in this Island Rack We just added to the top of this rack and I believe it is about as tall as we want it (I need to stand on a stepladder now to reach the top of the rack and that's my cat, Bailey, sitting on top of the rack). This rack is on wheels so we can move it.

To the right of the Island Rack are some of our Raise-up Colubrids...

Behind the Island Rack are some more Colubrid Racks. We are trying to get to the point where all our Colubrids are housed in this style rack but for the time being, some of them are still in deli-cups. My dog Bosco likes to just hang out

Here's what the small containers look like in those racks...

On the left wall are the baby Boas, Ball Morphs and baby Blood Pythons...

And how these containers are set up...

Wow Celia, and I complain cleaning up after only 16! Your set up looks great, definitely making the most of your available space. Question for you- is that a Bengal or an Ocicat you have there? Reminds me of my fellow Spot (Bengal) since he's happiest on top of a nice warm snake cage.
Thanks for sharing the pics and good luck with all those babies!

I think I dream about back when I only had a few guys and gals to clean LOL!

As for the cat, he's a Bengal. He's a little over 3 years old and weighs about 20 to 22 pounds or so. He's a great cat and lots of our local customers walk in and the first thing they say is "where's the cat??" LOL

cleaning and feeding right now.. lol
I can't imagine doing that along with my full time job too!

I have a question.. how do you feed them? Do you throw the food item in, having them eat on the aspen/wood chips?
Is there a problem with ingestion and impaction?
I was always a bit worried about this..

I would appreciate your input/experience.

Thanks much!

they're all babies so it's not too bad...I guess...? I work Monday thru Friday at an insurance company which I've been pulling overtime at these last couple of weeks because of the Hurricanes (we do a lot of mobile home insurance along the coast) so I only have Saturday and Sundays to "spare". So it's always work, work, and more work...

Anyways, we do feed them in the containers. For the baby Corns in delicups, it's no problem because there are no shavings in the cup, only the filter/liner. For the ones that have shavings, we use Sani-chips for the baby Colubrids in the smaller containers. The Sani-chips are so small that if they were to swallow any, the pass it with no problem. The baby Ball Pythons and Boas are on Aspen which has yet to present us with any problems. We do tend to start off our new babies on papertowels and then switch them over to shavings once they've had 4 to 5 meals.

Hope this info helps...

Thanks,
Celia
