Is it just me or does this sound odd to you too.....more

Hoppy Sep 26, 2004 07:08 PM

I posted an ad for 4 difficult feeding baby corns and I got about a dozen replies, most of them wanting to save the shipping by picking them up. Most of them declined once they found out the drive would be 2 hours from where ever they were coming from.
I have this one person that wants to make a 12 hour drive from North FL to South FL to pick up 4 non-feeding corns. The person did not leave a name or anyother information, so I declined his/her offer because it seem just too wierd.
So my question is, am I just untrusting because of being a cop or would you all decline to give driving direction to someone willing to drive 700 miles to save $45.00 in shipping? It just seemed odd to me, let me know if you think I'm crazy or not.
Thanks

yep that is pretty weird!!! The only sane option would be that if the person had to drive there anyways, then picking up some corns would be an added bonus. But otherwise, I wouldnt drive 700 miles to pick up some non-feeders, shoot I wont even pay $5 for em!! LOL

Why give your address to anyone? I use a P.O. Box for contact info (sending M.O., etc..) and I only invite people over to my house THAT I ALREADY KNOW. If I don't know them, then I meet them at a grocery store parking lot, etc...

It does seem a bit odd.Sometimes I get the incredible urge to roadtrip and might drive 200 miles to visit a bass pro shop.On the other hand they might try something stupid, like shoot you and take your entire collection.I would be wearing kevlar and have my assualt team ready just in case...Paul

There have been several occaisions where A buyer might live a couple of hours drive away so I just meet them half way.
Gives me a chance to take a drive, helps them save shipping and assures me that there won't be any delays in shipping resulting in a dead snake.
Not to mention the fact that I really wouldn't have anyone meet me at my house.
I don't even have co-workers come to my house.
Of course none of them want to anyway because all the dogs, cats and snakes....which is fine with me...lol

I am going to the Tampa show this weekend. If you got them to me, I could deliver them to the show and somebody (prearranged by you) could pick them up there.

I would meet them at a public place myself...no way would I trust someone like that. I would feel they are trying to scope out your place to come back and rob you...

I'd say that'd be a big no, for two reasons. First, anyone traveling that far to "save" on shipping will probably spend more on gas getting there, unless of course they have one of those nifty little electric cars that don't go over 70 mph but get eleventy billion miles per gallon. That right there puts up a red flag.

Second, being a donut eater also, I'm very very careful about who I give my address or phone number out to. This could be someone you've arrested who knows you are into snakes and are just tryin' to get your address to do mean and nasty things to you/your property/your family. Call it paranoid, but that's just how I think.

If it was me, I'd want name, date of birth, race/sex, and a DL number to run them through my dispatch for 99's or 27's (depending on which ten code you use). But it's your call...

Hey, what's wrong with those itty bitty hybrids (cars that is) that get great gas mileage??? I know for a fact they will go quite a bit faster than 70 mph too... (but I'd never speed officer, it'd wreck my gas mileage ). More money to spend on snakes and a little more fresh air on the planet...
But I agree that someone driving that far to supposedly save on shipping is odd. Unless they've got other business in the area, that's not much of a savings, if any. And I wouldn't give them directions to the house either, what with the recent break ins and collection thefts that have occurred. I have driven 75 miles or so to save on shipping, but the seller would only ship delta dash and it was a definite savings to drive my hybrid vs airport to airport cost.

people are strange......

I take non-feeding or pain in the butt feeding corns to the shows at times......they get all the attention.....I am not taking them this time unless they are to just go for feed for king cobras or coral snakes.....(I gave away a dozen earlier this year for coral food)......

anyways.......

people......who can figur them out....??

I will be setting up a table in 3 weeks...with probably 100 to 150 snakes on it......betcha the cheap stuff is what they look at.....(feeding yet cheap).........of course they'll be looking at the ghost and amel balls......but they will not be buying the lavender aztecs, candycanes or opal aztecs......and the older year old stuff or adults.......LOL.....well..if you want to sell them for $100 and less a pair.....they'll look....and still whine.........(yes ,even adult stuff worth like $400-500 a pair..they want them for 80$.......)LOL

.......I done......

later..........

Yeah, that is creepy... I'd back out of said sale too... If someone throws up a red flag along the transaction, I don't sell or buy from them... it's not worth the risk. In general, if people are willing to go through extraordinary measures to get something that isn't worth that effort, there's some ulterior motive...
