Trying to identify unknown snake #1

sblauvelt Sep 26, 2004 08:03 PM

I recently adopted someones collection and I am trying to identify this snake. My best guess is that it is some type of kingsnake. Any help would be appreciated.

dark Hondoran Milksnake.

I guess if it is only 2-3 feet, it could be a black milk, but it looks more like an old Honduran milk to me.

What about L.t.adesiana? I've never seen a Honduran so dark but it could very well a hondurensis or a lighter colored Black Milk.

I generally think of andesiana as tricolored snakes, even when they have a lot of black tipping.
This snake looks like the mostly bicolored hondurans that you used to see on lists as imported "red" phase hondurans (which eventually were used to produce tangerines). The bicolored red animals generally weren't very popular and so they were selected against in the hobby. The things we see as "hondurans" in the hobby now are a lot prettier than many of the snakes that used to come out of Honduras in the 80s.
