bigdee Sep 26, 2004 09:07 PM

My male is about 2 now and 4ft or so and female is about 3 1/2 and 6-6 1/2 ft. I was to to separate my male and take away the heat in early this month and to do it of a few weeks. Today I put him in the females cage and no breeding I decided to keep him in over night just in case, last season I didnt get them to breed eighter what is wrong shoundnt the male take right to her. The females cage on warm side is hight 80's to low 90 the male cage is low 70's to low 80's depending on outside temp.

First off are you sure that you have a sexual pair? by this i mean a definate male and a definate female. also in my opinion its still a bit early to cool them let alone expect them to breed
did you cool the female? how long did you cool them for and at what temps? did you feed them during this time? personally i wait till mid to late oct before i start to cool them i dont feed them for 2-3 weeks prior to starting to cool and when i cool them i some times bring my temps down as low as 70 degrees and no higher than 76 degrees for 8 weeks i then begin to gradually warm them upto thier normal temps all within 2 weeks i then feed them and place them together and leave them alone usually i will witness no activity for a week or so and always late at night never in the day time i somtimes mist them with warm water from a spay bottle this seems to stimulate them this ussually works for me but what works for me doiesnt always work for others you just have to be patient
good luck

As far as definate pair I got them as such from big breeders male from cv exotics and female from D&M breeders. I did not cool the female and I cooled the male for 3 or so weeks at temps of low 70. I did not feed the male but fed the female. Now if I dont have to cool them until last oct. could I give them a meal or 2 now? The male hasnt eaten in a while, over a month.

ok, now I've never bred boas, but many things sound wrong with your breeding attempts. your boas are on the young side, and the fact that you thought you could breed them last year is inconceivable to me. low 70's is too low a temperature for cooling. from what i understand, you lower the daytime and nighttime highs less than ten degrees. you need to cool the female as well as the male. If you've done things right the male shouldn't even want to feed. generally the male isn't introduced to the female until after the temps have begun to rise again. this is all just off the top of my head. You should probably start reading around on boa reproduction, buy some books, and the internet has a plethora of information as well.
