Herps and Birds

Langi Sep 26, 2004 09:17 PM

Are there any problems with keeping birds and reptiles in the same room? I've been considering getting some sort of bird but I didn't know if there were any health problems that birds could pass to reptiles. Thanks for your reply.

I am not aware of any highly contagious and devastating disease that birds and herps are able to give each other. Just keep in mind that birds are essentially reptiles, so the physiological jump for a pathogen would not be that big.

Also want to point out that these animals are predators of each other, and I can imagine a bird getting stressed out from the sight of a large monitor in the room, for instance.
