i am knew to the board but own a very large python and was wondering what the best way to heat the enclosure is, in his current enclosure i am using lamps and they arent heating enough so in the new cage i am going to use heat tape. so here is the question, what is the best way to go about using the pad, i have heard under lynoleum works well but has anyone tried using the pad under astro turf. i ask only because that is what the snake is living on right now and seems quite happy about it and when he moves i dont want to change too many things. and should i look into getting an air purifier for his enclosure or is that pointless and i hear all this talk of misters and would really like if someone would tell me where to order or buy one of these because i love my snake but spraying the cage down every hour is getting really tedious (i am a college kid and dont have a job during school so i have a lot of free time)

you could probably use the heat tape under the astroturf, but make absolutely sure you have a thermostat or something on there. Newspaper makes a great substrate and is very cheap and easy.

I dont know what kind of enclosure you have, but if you have to spray it every hour, thats kinda excessive. I would look for ways to make your enclosure hold the humidity better.

I use heat tape under the astroturf in my big balls cage. I also got sick of misting and instead of doing that I bought a cheap humidifier for my snake room and just keep the window and door closed when I'm not home. Works well. Good luck. Sera

Thank you for replying and in case anyone is going to read this to, the cage is melamine but the back of the cage is all perforated fiberboard and i think that is why the cage can't hold humidity. The new enclosure is going to be an extention to the existing enclosure except the whole thing is going to be melamine so the humidity will hold better (I hope) and this is where the reason for me to typing this comes in, is it safe to use a humidifier or should i use a mist machine? And by the way it was late at night when I typed the first message and i dont know if you were joking but I did spell college like this not collage. I appreciate your replys all it is a big help.
