Maternal or artificial incubation.

cyber_crimes Jun 27, 2003 03:42 AM

Im just wondering what every1 here prefers.I have noticed many members use the maternal method (which would suit me as it would be a great experience to watch). Could GTP be bred annually if they incubate thier own eggs? I realise they would lose condition due to maternal incubation but would they lose enough to not breed again the following year?

I would avoid breeding a female in back to back years if she has maternally incubated a clutch....even the stress of breeding and egg laying alone is cause for giving females a year off from breeding and the additional stress(50 more days of not feeding or drinking) of maternal incubation would certainly risk the health of your animal if you trying to breed her again the next season....a year off from breeding will help to ensure the better long term health for your animal....
