Head shedding antics

grundor Sep 27, 2004 03:44 PM

My mali juvenile is currently finishing up its shed with only the top of the head and eye ridges to go. It is spending its time rolling, head scratching, and basking while extruding sand from it's eyes in that special uro way. Should I be worried about eye flushing that goes on for periods exceeding five minutes or should I leave my grumpy mali alone to finish shedding and assume it is from the frenzied contortions it is going through trying to satisfy that "itch it just can't scratch."

Wow I've never seen mine do that before. Ok, with the head scratching is it like scratching its face on a rock or something? My saharan scratches his eye area on his log I'm also afraid its going to hurt him......

I don't really know, but that's a really really good question.

It is using its back legs like a dog trying to scratch its head and is not using the numerous rocks in the enclosure, prefering to grind its head in the sand. It is most likely the sand-head-dance that is causing it to spend many minutes extruding sand from its eyes
